Giving Students the eDGE
The eMINTS National Center, at the University of Missouri College of Education, is implementing this Education Innovation and Research (EIR) grant from the U.S. Department of Education. EIR grant competitions support "state and local efforts to develop, implement and take to scale innovative and evidence-based projects".
Recruitment for this project has been completed. If you are interested in taking the eDGE courses to learn how to do game design in the classroom, use the link above to register or go to emints.org to learn more. Any teacher at any grade level is now welcome to register for the eDGE courses.
eDGE Summary
The goal of this EIR eDGE grant is to infuse computer science and mathematics education with computational thinking so that computer science and mathematics are more integrated, relevant and interesting for all students. This project aims to collaboratively design mathematics intensive computational thinking (CT) activities aligned to CSTA standards and Learning Standards for Mathematics and Science for multiple states, and develop related teacher professional development and evaluation frameworks. Students will program games and simulations that address mathematical concepts including probability, proportional reasoning, statistical reasoning, the use of local and global variables, and functions in the context of computational thinking activities.
This EIR Grant Project is designed for 5th grade core classroom teachers and will provide computers and software for teachers and students and professional development and stipends for teachers. If you are a school interested in the eDGE Grant Project please use the Schools Interested Tab to learn more about this innovative project.
